May 11, Grosetto
Our penultimate excursion as part of the Venissimo tour was to a Buffala (water buffalo) cheese maker in the town of Grosetto. On the way there, we passed a US Air Force base, with fighter planes taking off and landing frequently. What the buffalo thought of all the roars, I don't know.
The actual cheesemaking was behind a clear plastic partition in the shop, so we didn't get a good view of that. But we did get to visit the buffalo, which were being kept in much nicer and cleaner conditions than at the Italian farm we had visited in 2018.
Finally, we visited the small winery Il Civettaio for lunch and a tour.
