September 5, Lucca
I want to do a "shout-out" to our Lucca hotel, Alla Corte Degli Angeli. This quirky hotel tickled us with its mural-painted rooms and kitchy decor. The breakfasts were great, with most of us eating in an enclosed courtyard. This was our favorite of the trip.
Our group, now counting thirteen, began with a walking tour of Lucca, including a brief trip up to the wall surrounding the town.
After lunch, Leslie and I chose to walk the entire wall, about two-and-a-half miles. We sometimes had to dodge tourists who had rented bicycles or pedaled carriages. Part way around, we stopped to spend some time in the Orto Botanico di Lucca (Botanical Garden of Lucca) - Leslie can't pass a botanical garden without stopping in, not that I mind at all. It's interesting to see what grows in various places.
